To show how authentic our standard stone looks, we are showing below the very similar appearance of both one of our antiqued pieces and an original section of Roman carved limestone, which was discovered on the outskirts of Rome, very close to the historic town of Ostia. This was the main port in the area at that time and located on the river Tiber, and thrived between the second and third century A.D.
The close similarity of the two pieces and the authenticity of both texture and colour are the reasons for choosing this antiquing method above all others.
Every piece that we produce is finished by hand, never repeating the same texture or colour.
The antiquing colour is applied over wet stone, this gives us the ability to move the colour around, creating light and dark areas where required.
After the colour has been applied and dried out, a small amount of scaping is done to each piece. This reveals the natural colour of the stone benieth for a historical look.

To give an insight into the design process, we are happy to show you the stages of carving and finishing of our new large arrow slit window.
The process begins with a slab, this could be stone, plaster or wood. On this particular occasion we hand drew the design full scale on paper, which was an aid during the production stage, and also allowed us to present the design to the customer who had requested this window. Below you can see the window header slab cut to the required shape, and the carving of the internal profile started.
